Cherry Circle Room is the reinvention of the iconic restaurant of the same name that has serviced the Chicago Athletic Association and its members for generations. The intimate, James Beard award-winning space ('Outstanding Restaurant Design') has been fully reimagined and restored by Land and Sea Dept., melding the building's historic original features with modern design elements that root the experience firmly in the present.
We are located on the second floor (in the way, way back) of the beautiful and historic Chicago Athletic Hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The hotel is on Michigan Avenue, right across from Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago. You can find us by going through the second floor Game Room (follow the neon sign), or come in through our alley entrance off of East Madison Street.
Executive Chef Pete Coenen has created a refined yet rustic menu for Cherry Circle Room, inspired by Chicago Athletic Association menus dating as far back as the 1890s. The dishes are creative takes on familiar regional classics, all utilizing the best and freshest seasonal ingredients. The menu offers several tableside presentations of classic cuts of meat, fresh seafood, and thoughtfully composed and plated house specialties. Executive Pastry Chef Kristine Antonian’s selection of desserts and pastries are both playful and sophisticated, featuring fresh produce and house-made ingredients.
Land and Sea Dept.’s beverage director Paul McGee offers a cocktail program with an emphasis on American and Scotch whiskey, featuring both seasonal house cocktails and a rotating menu of specialty drinks inspired by an historic bartender or cocktail book. The cocktail program also includes tableside drink service, offering preparations of Manhattans, Martinis, and Old Fashioneds, as well as an after-dinner amaro cart.
Wine Director Andrew Algren oversees an approachable and classic wine program for the Cherry Circle Room, placing an emphasis on American and French wine, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir dominated blends.
Additionally, our wine program finds inspiration in the historic wine lists of the Chicago Athletic Association, offering Michigan Avenue diners both accessibility and value without sacrificing sophistication.
Local brewery Marz Community Brewing Co. has collaborated with Land and Sea Dept. on a limited edition Cherry Circle Rye Ale, which is available on tap, alongside a selection of bottled and draft beers.
